The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) is the UN’s global sustainable development organization. It works to end poverty and build democratic governance in 170 countries. The Chief Digital Office (CDO) leads the organization’s ambitious transformation journey. Its ultimate goal is to harness the potential of digital technology for development. The team is now seeking motivated interns to support this critical effort.
Please note that the start date is flexible and needs-based. Consequently, UNDP will receive applications on a rolling basis until September 30, 2025. Successful applicants can, as a result, hear back at any time between March 1, 2025, and the end of 2025.
Key Responsibilities
As a Digital Transformation Intern, you can support work in any of the following areas:
Inclusive Digital Ecosystems
- You will support the shaping of local digital ecosystems. This ensures a rights-based and inclusive approach to digital development.
- Furthermore, assistance with the implementation of equitable and secure digital and data public infrastructure will be a key task.
- In addition, your role involves supporting primary research and content review on digital topics like inclusive connectivity, ethical technology, and AI.
- Subsequently, you will support advocacy by developing digestible content for social media, blogs, and briefing notes.

Digital Transformation Intern
Country Office Support & Capacity Building
- You will assist with the assessment of countries’ digital and AI readiness. This includes project management and operations implementation.
- Similarly, you will provide support to Country Offices for tasks related to developing national data strategies, data governance frameworks, and national AI strategies.
- A key responsibility is making digital and AI capacity-building resources more accessible for governments.
- Furthermore, you will support key programmatic initiatives around AI and Data, including multilingualism in AI and green computing.
UNDP Digital Strategy Development & Implementation
- You will support the global positioning of UNDP’s thought leadership. This includes conducting research on key digital topics. Moreover, you will synthesize the information into clear summaries for senior leadership.
- In addition, you will support the management, coordination, and content maintenance of UNDP’s digital guides webpage.
- You will also contribute to the design of UNDP’s digital capacity footprint.
Business Operations (People, Procurement, Finance, Internal Processes)
- You will assist the Operations Unit in completing and tracking specific areas of work.
- Support for the implementation, monitoring, and reporting of Resourcing Plans is another key duty.
- Additionally, you will assist the team in organizing meetings, workshops, and travel.
- You will also help ensure compliance with Procurement and Recruitment policies.
- A key responsibility is identifying inefficiencies and developing actionable plans to eliminate obstacles and boost productivity.
Thought Leadership, Engagement & Partnerships, and Strategic Communications
- Researching potential new partners, including technology companies and foundations, is a core task. Consequently, this helps identify new opportunities for collaboration.
- You will support strategic communications and outreach to partners. This includes drafting concept notes, proposals, and other documents.
- In addition, you will support engagement in global, multilateral, and UN interagency processes. This involves drafting statements and speeches.
Product Design, Build, and Management (including AI tools)
- Your responsibilities will include supporting the design of digital products like apps, platforms, and AI tools.
- You will assist in the building of these digital products. This involves working with software developers and product managers.
- User testing and product improvements are also key tasks.
- As a result, you will also support the implementation of digital products in countries to ensure quality delivery and outcomes.
UNDP Transformation: Change Management
- You will support the management of UNDP Communities of Practice to facilitate knowledge exchange.
- You will assist in tracking and analyzing progress on UNDP’s Digital Transformation initiatives.
- Furthermore, you will contribute to internal communications by designing emails and preparing meeting invitations.
Required Qualifications for UNDP Digital Transformation Internship
- Education: You must be enrolled in a graduate program or be in the final academic year of a bachelor’s program. Alternatively, you must have graduated with a university degree within the past 12 months.
- Skills: Demonstrated interest or experience in one of the workstreams mentioned above is desirable. You must be detail-oriented and possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Compensation & Application Process
- Compensation: UNDP interns are eligible to receive a monthly stipend. The stipend rate varies depending on the duty location.
