Political Affairs/Electoral Analyst Intern – UN DPPA (Hybrid/Remote)

Organization: United Nations, Department of Political and Peacebuilding Affairs (DPPA) Location: New York, USA (Flexible – Hybrid, Remote, or In-person) Job Type: Internship (Unpaid) Expected Duration: 2 to 6 months.  The United Nations is seeking a motivated Political Affairs Intern to join the Electoral Assistance Division (EAD) within the Department of Political and Peacebuilding Affairs (DPPA) in New York. This is a unique opportunity to contribute to the UN’s mission of promoting peace and resolving conflicts. The internship is initially for 2 months, with a possibility of extending up to 6 months. While the internship is designed to be full-time and in-person, flexible arrangements are possible, including part-time (20 hours per week) and/or remote work.


 

The Role: Your Impact as an Electoral Analyst Intern

As an Electoral Analyst Intern, you will play a crucial role in supporting the work of the Electoral Assistance Division. We will assign you to the UN Headquarters, but we will consider a hybrid or remote setting based on your request. Your daily responsibilities will depend on your background, the nature of specific projects, and the internship duration.

Your responsibilities may include:

  • Document Preparation: You will assist in drafting and preparing official documents and correspondence, such as background papers, talking points, briefing materials, and speeches.

  • Meeting Support: In addition, you will attend and take notes during trainings, conferences, and meetings, and help with their logistical preparations.

  • Research & Analysis: To be specific, you will conduct research and media analysis, gather and update country-specific information, and assist with the EAD’s institutional memory database.

  • Data & Reporting: Furthermore, you will help create dashboards and reports, perform ad-hoc data analysis, and present results clearly.

  • Other Duties: Finally, you will perform other related duties as required.

Who We’re Looking For: Qualifications and Skills

 

To qualify for this UN internship, you must be a student in the final year of your first university degree (bachelor or equivalent), a Master’s or Ph.D. program, or have recently completed one of these programs. You do not need professional work experience.

We are looking for someone with:

  • Language Skills: Fluency in spoken and written English is required. Knowledge of an additional UN language (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian, or Spanish) is an asset.

  • Technical Skills: You should have good knowledge of standard software applications, especially MS Word, MS PowerPoint, and MS Teams.

  • Mission Alignment: You must demonstrate an interest in the United Nations Internship Programme and, specifically, in elections and electoral assistance.
