UN Political Intern United Nations
The United Nations Department of Political and Peacebuilding Affairs (DPPA) seeks a Political Intern to support its Peacebuilding Support Office (PBSO). This internship provides a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience in the fields of peacebuilding, conflict prevention, and political affairs. Furthermore, this role does not offer pay.
About the Role
As a Political Intern, you will directly support the PBSO branches, which advance the Secretary-General’s agenda on peacebuilding and sustaining peace. In addition, you will contribute to the Youth, Peace, and Security agenda. This role offers you an opportunity to work on substantive issues while assisting colleagues with the day-to-day operations of the office.

Key Responsibilities
You will provide crucial support to the team, contributing to several key initiatives. For instance, you will:

Research & Analysis: Conduct background research and data analysis to inform documents and briefs for senior officials, including the Assistant Secretary-General for Peacebuilding.

Administrative & Coordination Support: Assist with internal and external engagements, draft meeting summaries, and support the coordination and management of the Annual UN-Civil Society Organizations Dialogue.

Engagement & Collaboration: You will participate in UN mechanisms and coordination platforms to promote a coherent approach to peacebuilding. Moreover, you will support work related to the Peacebuilding Fund.

Qualifications

Education: You must currently pursue a graduate school program or the final year of a first university degree program, or you must have graduated within the past year.

Skills: You must have computer literacy in standard software applications, and advanced knowledge of Excel is desirable.

Languages: Fluency in written and spoken English is required. You must also have knowledge of an additional UN language, which is an asset.

Is this a full-time position? This role functions as a full-time position (35 hours per week), but the team can adjust it to a part-time (20 hours per week) schedule based on your needs.

Will I need a visa? If you are not a U.S. citizen or permanent resident, you must obtain a G-4 visa. The United Nations must verify that you have authorization to work from the country where the internship is undertaken.
