UN Internship Country Planning at UNDSS


The United Nations Department of Safety and Security (UNDSS) is seeking a motivated and enthusiastic individual for an UN Internship Country Planning. Therefore, you will support the UN’s global security management system and gain hands-on experience with operational planning and resilience.

Please note: This is an unpaid internship for a period of 3-6 months.

As a result, you will join the Operational Resilience Section (ORS) in New York, a team focused on creating and implementing new ideas and methodologies to respond to an ever-evolving global security landscape.

This UN Internship is primarily in-person and full-time in New York City, though we may consider remote or hybrid arrangements on an exceptional basis. In this role, you will assist the Country Planning team with advising, compiling, and communicating with field staff on strategic and operational planning processes.

Key Responsibilities for a UNDSS Internship


As an UNDSS Internship participant, you will provide critical support. For example, you will:

  • Support Field Colleagues: Help them develop country and work plans using existing templates and tools.

  • Manage Data: Assist with data entry in digital platforms and support data collection systems for analytics.

  • Conduct Research: Perform research, analysis, and interpretation of trends to inform decision-making.

  • Organize Training: Support the organization and delivery of training sessions and workshops for field colleagues.

Qualifications


First, you must be enrolled in or have recently completed a Bachelor’s degree (final year) or a graduate degree in a related field such as Programme/Project Management, Communications, Analytics, or Business Administration. Second, you must possess strong knowledge of Microsoft 365 applications. Furthermore, we look for a keen interest in the work of the United Nations. For this reason, no professional work experience is required to apply. Lastly, you must be fluent in English (both oral and written).
