SDG Internship UN: Partnerships & Outreach in New York

The UN Department of Economic and Social Affairs (DESA) is offering an SDG Internship UN for Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) Outreach and Partnerships. This is a unique opportunity to join the Division for Sustainable Development Goals (DSDG). The position is based at the UN Headquarters in New York, USA, but it may also offer a flexible work arrangement, which can be fully remote or hybrid. Consequently, you will have the chance to contribute to both in-person and virtual activities, from conferences to webinars.

You will gain hands-on experience and become an integral part of a dynamic team. As a result, you will strengthen your organizational and political skills. This sustainable development intern position lasts for a minimum of two months, with a possibility of extension to six months. You will, therefore, be exposed to real-time dynamics, negotiations, and projects.


 

Your Responsibilities as a UN SDG Intern

As an SDG Internship UN participant, you will help the team promote and coordinate the implementation of the seventeen Sustainable Development Goals. Your duties may include:

  • Outreach & Communications: You will support the drafting of concept notes and outreach materials for events. Furthermore, you will help implement stakeholder engagement strategies, which include social media and online consultations.

  • Event Organization: You will assist with the organization of in-person and virtual events, including conferences, meetings, and training sessions. This involves preparing agendas, co-drafting background materials, and providing technical support.

  • Research & Analysis: You will engage in research and analysis on various SDG topics. In addition, you will help with the review and follow-up of SDG Partnerships and support the preparation of papers and reports for international conferences and intergovernmental meetings.

  • Website Support: You will help staff with content updates for the website.

Eligibility for the Internship

 

We are seeking a candidate with a keen interest in sustainable development.

  • Educational Background: You must be a student in the final academic year of your first university degree (bachelor’s level or equivalent) or be enrolled in a graduate school program (second university degree or higher).

  • Language Requirements: Fluency in spoken and written English is required for this UN SDG internship. Knowledge of an additional official UN language is an advantage.

  • Application Process: A completed online application is required. In your Cover Note, you must list your degree program, graduation date, and IT skills. You must also explain why you are the best candidate and your interest in the UN Internship Programme.


 

Key Information for Your SDG Internship

This is not a financially remunerated position. As a result, interns are responsible for covering all costs and arrangements related to travel, visas, accommodation, health insurance, and living expenses for the duration of the SDG internship. Furthermore, you do not need professional work experience to participate in the program. You must, however, have a demonstrated keen interest in the work of the United Nations.
