About the Internship


The Public Engagement Communications Intern role sits within the Office of the Vice President of Public Engagement. This internship offers a unique opportunity for early-career professionals or students to gain practical, resume-building experience in nonprofit communications and stakeholder engagement. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams to support storytelling, campaign outreach, and communications logistics.

Key Responsibilities


The internship provides a comprehensive, hands-on learning experience with wide exposure to nonprofit communication strategy and tools. Specifically, you will:

  • Media & Communications Support: Track and compile news mentions of Oxfam’s initiatives in U.S. media. You will also manage and respond to media inquiries and help plan community-facing events like Hunger Banquets.

  • Digital & Content Management: Review, edit, and proofread digital and web content to ensure clarity and consistency. Furthermore, you will support social media posting and community management, including monitoring engagement and trends. You will also manage multimedia assets and train staff members on using the asset database.

  • Project Coordination: Use Asana to support task coordination across the Public Engagement team. You will help streamline communication between teams, ensuring that deadlines and deliverables are met.

Qualifications for Oxfam Communications Internship


  • Education: You must currently be enrolled in or have recently completed a degree in communications, public relations, journalism, or a related field. You need a minimum of one year of academic or work experience in a relevant area.

  • Skills: You must have a high level of organizational skills with great attention to detail. In addition, you need excellent written and verbal communication skills. Familiarity with project management tools like Asana and digital asset platforms is a plus.

  • Interests: You should have an enthusiasm for global justice, social change, and the nonprofit sector.

Compensation & Logistics


  • Duration: 6 months (July to December 2025)

  • Hours: 32 hours per week

  • Pay Rate: $17.00 per hour

  • Remote Work: This is a remote role, but you must reside in the U.S. due to legal and operational requirements.
