The UNESCO Education Sector invites applications for an internship with a maximum duration of six months. The organization’s mission is to provide global leadership in education, ensuring that every child, youth, and adult has access to quality education throughout their life. The internship is available at UNESCO Headquarters, field offices, and institutes worldwide.
About UNESCO & Your Role
UNESCO has the power to catalyze transformation in education by bringing together stakeholders to achieve the ambitious Education 2030 Sustainable Development Agenda and its targets for Sustainable Development Goal 4 (SDG 4). The Education Sector uses the Education 2030 Framework for Action as a roadmap for its activities.
You will have the opportunity to learn and support the overall work of the Education Sector. Managers will select interns based on a candidate’s specialization and the needs of a particular team. The work you will perform will vary depending on the specific requirements of the assignment.
UNESCO Education Sector Internship
What You’ll Do
The work entrusted to interns falls under one or more of the following categories, based on the needs of each team:
1. Programme and Project Support
- You will participate in the preparation and review of project documents. You will also draft notes and prepare technical annexes.
- You will prepare conceptual frameworks and concept notes on new areas of work or development challenges.
- You will collect, organize, and analyze data to contribute to the production of documents and working papers.
2. Research and Knowledge Management
- You will undertake specific research to produce well-defined aspects or segments of work products, including publications and project proposals.
- You will contribute to the preparation of knowledge and communication products and materials for advocacy and outreach.
3. Partnerships
- You will analyze and compile background data for potential partnerships and fundraising opportunities.
- You will arrange briefings, visits, tours, and meetings to support collaborative activities.
- You will also liaise and build networks with officials, researchers, and other international organizations.
4. Operations Support
- You will provide administrative and logistical support in the planning and organization of meetings, events, and conferences.
- You will also support the preparation of specific budgets and financial documentation.

Required Qualifications for UNESCO Education Sector Internship
- Age: You must be at least 20 years old to apply.
- Academic qualifications: You must be currently enrolled in a graduate program (Master’s, PhD, or equivalent) or have graduated within the last 12 months.
- Languages: You should have an excellent command of English or French. A working knowledge of the other language is an asset.
- Skills: You must have an excellent knowledge of computer systems and office-related software.

- Internship Period: Internships last for a maximum of six months.
- Application Process: The UNESCO Internships Programme is open in January and July each year. Successful candidates are placed in an intern talent pool for up to six months and may be contacted by hiring managers directly.
- Remuneration: Please note that UNESCO does not remunerate interns. There is no compensation, financial or otherwise, for internship assignments.
- Placement: Even if you are eligible, there is no guarantee of placement. UNESCO receives more applications from qualified candidates than it can place.
