International Interdisciplinary Research Projects: Call for Proposals
The International Interdisciplinary Research Projects Program
The British Academy is now inviting proposals for its International Interdisciplinary Research Projects. Specifically, this scheme aims to support projects that engage with crucial questions concerning the relationship between expertise, public understanding, and policy internationally. Therefore, the program highlights the importance of collaboration across communities, disciplines, and borders.
The British Academy particularly welcomes applications led from the humanities. Furthermore, this program receives support from the UK’s Department for Science, Innovation and Technology. Thus, the initiative continues to build on a history of government support.

CALL for the International Interdisciplinary Research Projects.
Eligibility for the Research Projects
-
Principal Investigator (PI): A UK-based researcher in the humanities or social sciences (SHAPE). To be eligible, the PI must hold an established role for at least the duration of the award. The minimum requirement is a postdoctoral status or equivalent research experience.
-
International Co-Applicants: In addition, the involvement of co-applicants based overseas is mandatory.
-
Interdisciplinary Collaboration: This is a core requirement for these interdisciplinary research projects. Projects must be led by and grounded in the humanities and/or social sciences. However, they must also involve collaboration with any SHAPE or STEM discipline.
Key Challenge Domains for the Research Projects
The Academy will only accept applications that focus on one or more of the following four transnational and planetary challenges. For example, this research program requires applications to address the technical, scientific, and governance components of each domain.
-
Earth System Governance: This includes problems related to climate change, biodiversity loss, and other forms of environmental degradation.
-
Digital & Transformative Technologies: This domain covers challenges presented by artificial intelligence (AI), cyber, synthetic biology, and other breakthroughs.
-

-
Outer Space Governance: This encompasses dilemmas posed by orbital debris, space traffic congestion, and property claims.
