Human Resources Intern – Graphic Design (New York)

The United Nations is seeking a creative, motivated, and detail-oriented Graphic Design Intern for its New York Headquarters. This internship offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to the Organization’s internal and external communication efforts, with a particular focus on diversity, inclusion, and global employer marketing. Consequently, you will gain hands-on experience throughout all stages of content development. Moreover, you will work in a vibrant, diverse, and multicultural environment for a period of 3 to 6 months.


The Role: Graphic Design Intern at the UN

This UN internship is in the Global Strategy and Policy Division of the Office of Human Resources. Under the supervision of a Human Resources Officer, you will work up to five days per week (35 hours), although we can make arrangements for part-time or remote work depending on your situation.

Key duties and responsibilities for this New York internship include:

  • Visual Content Production: You will assist with the design and production of a wide variety of visual content. Specifically, this includes publications, websites, social media assets, presentations, infographics, and other brand-enhancing communication products.

  • Design Workflow Participation: You will participate in the full design workflow process. In particular, you will develop concepts and drafts, receive and incorporate feedback, and finalize layouts for production.

  • Website and Event Support: You will assist with the maintenance and updates of internal and external websites. In addition, you will support event coordination, outreach activities, and the preparation of supplementary communication materials.

  • Digital Media and Accessibility: Furthermore, you will explore opportunities to assist with video editing and sound design. Likewise, you will contribute to the promotion of accessibility in graphic design and communication products, always following organizational guidelines.

To qualify for this Graphic Design Intern New York position, you must meet one of the following requirements:

  • You are currently enrolled in, or have completed, a graduate school program (second university degree or equivalent or higher).

  • Alternatively, you are enrolled in, or have completed, the final academic year of a first university degree program (minimum bachelor’s degree or equivalent).

You must have a field of study closely related to graphic design. While we do not require professional work experience for this UN internship, your ability to use graphic design tools such as Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, Canva, or Figma is highly desirable.

You must be fluent in spoken and written English. Knowledge of an additional official UN language is an advantage.


Additional Information

This is an unpaid internship. All costs and arrangements for travel, visas, accommodation, and living expenses are your responsibility. Candidates who are not US citizens or permanent residents will need to obtain a G-4 visa for this full-time in-person position.
