The Halo Trust (HALO) is a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization specializing in the removal of landmines and other explosive remnants of war (ERW). As a result, with projects in 30 countries and territories, we employ over 10,000 people. HALO’s Washington, D.C. office works with government partners, international agencies, foundations, and private donors. This work helps us raise awareness and funds to support our global teams. Ultimately, our mission is to mitigate the impact of landmines and ERW on post-conflict communities.

The Role: Advocacy Intern

HALO’s D.C. office is seeking an enthusiastic Advocacy Intern interested in U.S. politics and international affairs. This part-time, paid position is based in Washington, D.C. Specifically, the role is hybrid, with in-office days on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday, and remote work on Monday and Friday. The internship runs from September 2nd to December 12th, 2025, with potential for extension. The intern will work 25 hours per week and be paid the D.C. minimum wage of $17.95 per hour. Finally, the position reports to the Head of Congressional Affairs & Strategic Engagement.

This role provides valuable insight into advocacy, congressional relations, the non-profit sector, and humanitarian work. In short, you will conduct direct and meaningful work that significantly impacts the department’s ability to achieve its goals and makes a difference in the lives of families across the globe.

Qualifications

 

This position is best suited for a graduate student or a recent graduate with at least three years of combined work or internship experience. In addition, applicants should possess a positive attitude, be highly organized, flexible, self-motivated, and detail-oriented, with a strong interest in the non-profit and international development/humanitarian sector.
