The ACLU is hiring a Paid Undergraduate or Graduate Intern for its Organizational Management, Equity, and Inclusion (OMEI) team. This is a unique opportunity to contribute to the nation’s guardian of liberty, supporting the team that ensures all ACLU staff have the resources they need to succeed. Furthermore, this ACLU Internship is based in our national office in Washington, D.C., with hybrid and remote options available.

About the ACLU Internship


You will collaborate with the OMEI team to ensure that you meet the needs of the affiliate staff through learning programs, tools, and resources. The intern will support designing and rolling out improved systems for collecting and communicating resources, thereby helping to share learning and experience across the ACLU network. You will contribute to a team with a continuous improvement mindset and a desire to improve existing programs.

What You’ll Do


  • Develop Resources: You will compile, maintain, and organize resource banks to ensure ACLU leaders have access to the tools and information they need to succeed. In addition, you will brainstorm and develop key tools and trainings to help leaders.
  • Support Projects: You will draft a project plan to roll out new programs and think through change management best practices. You will also support convenings and learning sessions, focusing on tracking impact and metrics.
  • Create Content: You will draft preliminary language for deliverables such as internal communications, brief summaries, and presentations for different audiences. Moreover, you will research and share best practices around training, learning methods, and resource libraries.

What You’ll Bring


  • Experience: You must have experience with project management and building resources. In addition, you will need experience with user-focused design of resources to support leadership development.
  • Technical Skills: You must possess proficiency in Word, PowerPoint, and Excel.
  • Soft Skills: You must have the ability to take initiative, think creatively, solve problems, and take ownership of projects. You must also have excellent written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Mindset: A commitment to advancing the ACLU mission is essential. Ultimately, you will center and embed the principles of equity, inclusion, and belonging in your work and collaborate respectfully towards resolving obstacles.

Internship Logistics for ACLU Internship


  • Location: This ACLU internship is available as a limited number of remote or hybrid positions from our D.C. National office.
  • Work Schedule: Term-time internships may be part-time (20 hours/week) or full-time (35 hours/week).
  • Duration: Full-time internships last for 10 consecutive weeks and part-time internships span 12 weeks.
  • Stipend: The ACLU provides a stipend for students who are legally authorized to work. Consequently, undergraduate students earn $20/hour, while graduate and law students earn $24/hour.
